Ilija Wyller

Budding words in the wake of another bloom

23/06/2021—11/07/2021

In her paintings done on furniture fabrics, Ilija Wyller creates a direct link to the ordinary and to urban life. Thanks to her rejection of the traditional canvas, she avoids the many art-historical connotations that this usually carries and subtly draws attention to our everyday environments and the objects that surround us. The exhibition can be viewed as reflecting the relationships and transitions that exist between subject and object, within a separate ecosystem. The recognition that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts is central to eco-philosophical thinking. Nature is not a background against which people move, but an extension of the environments we occupy and the relationships we have to other things. The work at Salgshallen, at the far end of Storgata, deep in among the old market stalls, presents a stark contrast to the hectic life of the city outside, hinting to the viewer that she who searches will find.

Ilija Wyller (b. 1987) lives and works in Oslo. She trained at Bergen National Academy of the Arts.
